My doctoral work rests at the intersection of Fan Culture and Media Studies informed by auto-ethnography and very much Transdisciplinary in nature.

The dissertation highlights the collaborative nature of participation and the increasing tensions it entails. I examine my existing works to assess the evolution of this community, focusing on how social media influences members' experiences and how participation may serve as a form of implicit religion in which online interactions resemble discussions in religious groups, particularly in the dogmatic interpretation of source material.

This emergence of implicit religious structures gives rise to concerning forms of toxicity affecting participants’ experiences.

SciFi-Holic

My life has been a mosaic built from defining moments. The first tiles were laid in the spring of 1980, when I sat in a darkened theater and watched The Empire Strikes Back, and every Wednesday afternoon at my grandmother’s house, lost in the universe of Star Trek.

These experiences weren't just entertainment; they were the philosophical bedrock of my creative career. They were my initiation into the vast expanse of SciFi, a lens through which I now view our current reality.

As we stand at the precipice of what feels like a pivotal crossroad in human evolution, I see the prophecies of those classic screenplays unfolding before us

In a Future Near You

Step into my world: a megacity of nearly 30 million souls stacked into gated towers, humming with a thousand languages that bleed into one another.

Cash is a relic here. My car knows my voice; my digital self shadows my physical one so closely they're nearly indistinguishable.

Every want, every need—conversation, groceries, a meal, a movie—summons itself on demand at any time.

The texture of the physical world has grown thin, almost debatable. Welcome to Shanghai.
